It's hard to provide commentary for the following video, because this issue is one that always stirs up strong emotions.
Zach Wahls is a 19-year-old University of Iowa student. He recently spoke about the strength of his family during a public forum on House Joint Resolution 6 in the Iowa House of Representatives. Wahls has two mothers and came to oppose House Joint Resolution 6 which would end civil unions in Iowa.
I wanted to posted it here because Zach is a good example of what living an unscripted life looks like. It's not really about whether or not you support gay marriage or in this case "civil unions." Living an unscripted life is about standing up for what you believe in.
I can't imagine that life has been easy for Zach and his sister. I don't know much about Iowa, but it sounds like it's a very conservative place. Just knowing your parents' relationship isn't supported by the government has to be tough. This video shows that Zach and his sister are the product of amazing parenting, which we all know is not about whether you have straight parents, gay parents, or even two parents. Amazing parents come in every form - single, straight, gay, lesbian, biological, adopted, foster... good parents are special and come in all forms. I commend Zach for using his voice to stand up for who he is and what he believes in. That's whay Zach is today's Unscripted inspiration!
What do you stand for? How can you use your voice to bring attention and support to your cause?
